It took me three weeks to get reservations for Sunday brunch at Sunday in Brooklyn. The corner shop in Williamsburg is famous for their Hazelnut Praline Pancake Stack and I have to say they did not disappoint. I arrived for my reservation at opening to a line in the front of the store that wrapped around the corner. If you get stuck in a long line, luckily you can run across the street to the competiton and grab a cup of caffiene at the to-go window. (Just get espresso; the regular coffee tastes like plant water.) The three story restaurant felt like a home. A warm wooden interior with speakers in the ceiling and plants on each sill, felt so welcoming for a good brunch. The waitstaff was all friendly and eager to help however, due to the sheer volume of patrons there, the staff was somewhat frazzled. Our waitress took half of our order and then dissapeared. No harm no foul though, as she returned and remembered the first part of the order flawlessly.

Our brunch started off with the literally trademarked Sunday Hazelnut Praline pancakes. These were really something else. They didn't have the texture of usual pancakes. They were extremely dense and tasted like a less sweet Duncan Hines topped with brown butter. I found them quite tasty. The praline flavor really came through in an almost toffee-like zing mixed with the nutty chocolate flavor. You have the option to choose how many pancakes you would like in your stack; we got three and regretted it when seeing the large portions of the other things we ordered. I suggest getting one pancake for the novelty and move on to better things on the menu.

If you are a coffee addict like myself, then you can opt for a second cup of coffee with your sickly sweet pancakes. Delicious, strong and bitter espresso. Good for the soul. Another plus is the cute little tea cups the shots come in !

I blessed myself with the Warm Grain Bowl after talking myself out of Steak and Eggs. The bowl was filled with brown and wild rice, roasted squash and mushrooms, pepita romesco, kale avocado and grilled chicken (added at my request). The dish usally comes with a poached 6 minute egg, but I don't like runny yolks, so I passed that right on to my partner. Everything in the bowl was so delicious and flavorful. I find that grain bowls are an efficient way to up my green intake, so I jump at the them when I can. SIB certainly didn't make it hard for me to eat my vegetables .

My partner graced the table with the Cheddar Scramble. I cannot lie, I had also considered this as an option when deciding what to get so my eyes definitely were straying from my grain bowl. This heaping portion of brunch consisted of scrambled eggs, Long Island home fries, whole grain toast, your choice of bacon , breakfast sausage, chicken sausage or avocado. Seriously like IHOP on crack. The dish was so well presented, it was almost a shame to eat it.

The drinks available at Sunday/IN/Brooklyn are absolutely noteworthy. I'm only a drinker when the sweet ones are available so the Honeybear on Holiday was calling my name. The $16 cocktail mixed rum, Montenegro, apricot, pineapple and honey over pebbled ice for a tropical sip. I really loved this drink. It wasn't overly sweet but honestly just the right amount. We didn't order dessert here mostly because of the exorbitant amount of food we ate, but the Honeybear felt like the sweet bit I needed after. (Plus, I think the pancakes count! ) Not only was the drink amazing, but it came in the cutest container. Really creative work on the restaurant's part and probably my favorite part of the meal because of the sheer fun of it.

The novelty of this trendy restaurant didnt end after the food. When the waiter brought us out check, I gasped. We didn't get the usual plastic tray with the receipt on it! Sunday has wooden cubes with the receipt rolled inside, slots for your cards to sit in as well as A SMALL PROPOGATED PLANT FOR YOU TO TAKE WITH YOU???? I GOT A FREE PLANT WITH MY BRUNCH. No words. 10/10, definetely check out the restaurant but just don't fill up on the pancakes before you get to savor the rest of the foods available.
